Are you the type of person who is shocked when you see someone able to perform difficult yoga poses or crazy stretches? If so, you might dream of having this type of flexibility, but you might feel as if you have a long way to go. Luckily, following these tips can help you become more flexible.

1. Stretch With Warmed-Up Muscles

First of all, you should make sure that when you’re stretching, you’re doing so with warmed-up muscles. Although it’s true that you should always stretch before a major workout, lighting jogging in place or walking around for a few minutes before stretching can be a good idea. This can help warm up your muscles, which can make them more pliable. This can help you get better at stretching, and in the long run, can make you more flexible.

2. Stay Diligent

You aren’t going to become more flexible overnight. Staying diligent and making a point to stretch on a daily basis is important. You can stretch in the morning when you first wake up, before your daily workout and at night before you go to bed. Creating a routine and sticking to it can help encourage you to stretch regularly, which can provide you with better long-term results.

3. Switch it Up

You might have a few favorite stretches that you like to use each day. There is nothing wrong with this, but you should be adding some new and different stretches to your routine regularly. You have between 640 and 850 muscles in your body, so switching up your routine can help you ensure that you are using as many of them as possible.

4. Don’t Push Yourself Too Hard

Even though it’s important to be diligent and dedicated to stretching regularly if you want to improve your flexibility, you shouldn’t overdo it. A few minutes of stretching at a time should be sufficient for most people, at least in the beginning. If you overdo it, you could end up straining your muscles. This could cause an injury and could actually cause your progress to regress rather than getting better.

5. Try Yoga

Have you ever thought about trying yoga? It can be great for improving your flexibility and can have a ton of other benefits as well, such as helping you to relax and eliminate stress. You can try beginner’s yoga at home with a video to help guide you along, or for even better results, you can consider joining a yoga class at a local gym. There are classes for various skill levels, so you should be able to find one that can help you achieve your goal of becoming more flexible. You can learn some really great yoga poses while you’re participating as well!

If you dream of being more flexible, you should know that it is possible to achieve your goal. Follow these five tips, and you are sure to notice a difference more quickly than you think.
