In these contemporary times, the health and wellness industries are booming as more and more people seek safe methods through which they can attain a better lifestyle. One method through which individuals are attempting to become healthier is the detox diet. Although broadly defined, the detox diet is predicated on the notion that potentially toxic substances can build up within our bodies. Some of these toxic substances can include food, drink and various components of our natural environment. When these potentially toxic substances collect within our skin, hair, liver, and gastrointestinal system, we become susceptible to headaches, fatigue, chronic diseases, and stomach upset. To prevent these negative things from transpiring, many people incorporate a cleansing or “detox” diet into their lifestyle.

Individuals who are interested in trying a detox diet should know that there are several different kinds. One kind is the liver detox diet. With almost every liver detox diet, the detox is prefaced with a brief period of fasting. After the fast, detox begins. In some cases, food consumption will include things such as raw vegetables and fruits. In other cases, a liver detox will include the use of dieting aids such as detox tea or detox pads. A liver detox can also incorporate enemas. These aids are incorporated based on the principle that they facilitate a faster removal of potentially problematic toxins from the body.

In addition to trying a liver detox, individuals interested in cleansing their systems might try a niacin detox diet. To understand why such a diet might be done, consider the compound naicin. An organic compound responsible for dilating a human’s blood vessels, the niacin detox is predicated on the notion that ingesting the substance will contribute to the augmentation of blood flow. This increased blood flow will then flush toxins and fat out of the body.

Another detox diet that an individual might try would be the cranberry juice detox diet. With such a diet, one would generally drink only cranberry juice for anywhere from three to 10 days. The cranberry juice detox diet has been promoted as a medium that is effective in aiding weight loss and treatment. Additionally, the cranberry juice detox diet has been used to end drug dependency. There are many speculations regarding cranberry juice’s ability to prevent urinary tract infections, and the New York Times has cited studies indicating that the property can lower the risk of such infections. At the same time, however, the New York Times cited another study indicating that the juice cannot clear up an infection that has already begun. The efficacy of cranberry juice results from the fact that it contains phytonutrients capable of fighting toxins, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers.

If you are considering using a detox diet for cleansing and/or weight loss purposes, there are several things you should keep in mind. First, there is still dispute within the scientific community regarding the efficacy of detox diets. Second, detox diets such as the liver detox can engender potentially painful side effects such as dehydration, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Moreover, the longer you embark on a detox diet, the more likely side effects are to occur. If you are planning to begin a detox diet, make sure that you consult with a trained medical physician for advice and support.
