The Importance of a Holistic Diet for Cancer Patients

Regardless of how aggressive a cancer diagnosis is, the body will positively respond to a holistic diet. Eating a holistic cancer diet addresses the underlying cause of cancer, while other holistic alternative treatments are able to strengthen the body and healing abilities. People who are suffering from cancer should incorporate a holistic lifestyle into their treatment and become familiar with a holistic cancer diet.

Proper nutrition provides quality fuel for the body, which is critical to the treatment of cancer. A patient’s diet can easily enhance or deteriorate the effectiveness of their traditional cancer treatments. Knowing the harmful foods that actually feed cancer cells and interfere with treatment is important in healing the body.

For example, refined sugar strengthens cancerous cells and should be avoided at all costs. This should be the first substance that is eliminated from the diet. Other ingredients, such as sugar substitutes, trans fatty acids, and refined flour also damage the body and are linked to cancer. Processed foods, dairy, carbonated beverages, alcohol, coffee, caffeine, and fluoride may also interfere with the healing of cancer cells and and can actually fuel the growth of cancer.

On the other hand, a diet of whole, nutrient-rich foods can enhance the healing process and help the body fight cancer. Plant foods have nutrients that help the body to heal. Herbs and produce have anti-cancer properties that inhibit the growth and spreading of cancer while also strengthening and repairing the body. Some of the best foods for optimal health of cancer patients includes green leafy vegetables, sea vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, fruits that are high in antioxidants such as berries and dark grapes, garlic, turmeric, ginger, and green tea. Eating a lot of organic plant food is able to provide several layers of nutritional protection.

Healthy fats, such as those in flax oil and olive oil, are beneficial to the health of people who are not suffering from cancer. While these fats are important for helping the process of oxygenation of cells, they should be kept to a minimum because fat slows digestion, and may actually accelerate the growth of a tumor.

Cancer patients should try to eat a diet that is at a minimum of 80% raw. This helps to ensure that nutrients are not lost in the cooking process. It also makes sure that there is an alkaline environment in the food and the body, and a high quantity of enzymes to encourage healing processes. Another way to aid healing even more is to take oral digestive enzyme supplementation with meals, as well as systemic enzymes on an empty stomach.

It is important to properly fuel your body so it can heal as well as possible. Giving your body foods that is needs to work to discard or find a use for only puts more stress on the body and may make cancer worse.
